Dr. Boyer provides osteopathic manipulative therapy (OMT) to primary care patients in her Zionsville, Indiana office.

Hello, Dr. Boyer here! Welcome to my new wellness blog! This blog will provide valuable information, insights, and ideas to help you lead a healthier and happier life. I want to begin by giving you a better understanding of the basics of osteopathic medicine.

The difference between M.D. and D.O.

As some of you know, the letters after my name are D.O., not M.D. This means that I am a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. As a D.O., I underwent the same training as my M.D. friends and received additional education in Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT). As a D.O., I can practice in all medical specialties in all 50 states, prescribe medications, perform surgery, deliver babies, refer to specialists, and do everything else that an M.D. does.

In addition, we receive over 200 hours of advanced musculoskeletal training and specialty board certification in OMT, which we use as part of our comprehensive treatment. OMT is a hands-on, musculoskeletal approach to diagnosis and treatment used to assess health, restore motion, and aid healing in numerous conditions.

As your D.O., I take a whole-person approach and consider the lifestyle, social, spiritual, and environmental factors that affect your health. Osteopathic physicians know that health means more than the absence of pain or disease. Therefore, we seek to treat the root cause of illness rather than merely the symptoms. Our most important guiding principles are that the body is a whole unit of mind, body, and spirit; body structure and function are interrelated; and the body can self-heal.

As a D.O., Dr. Boyer focuses on a whole-body approach to health and wellness through osteopathic medicine.

What it’s like to have a D.O. as your primary care physician

As my patient, I see you as an individual and partner in your healthcare. I work with you and your unique situation to offer a personalized, balanced approach to your wellness. I take time to listen to your questions or concerns, health history, and wellness goals to ensure we pursue a patient-centered, holistic approach to your care. I’m proud to be a D.O. and incredibly grateful to be your doctor!

I hope this gives you a deeper understanding of my unique approach as your D.O. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or topics you’d like me to discuss. I plan to share much more about this philosophy with you through this blog. I want to help you make improved and informed decisions about your overall health.
